Elizabeth Seibert, PhD, CRNA, is an Associate Professor and Director of the Doctoral
Program. She came to VCU as director of Clinical Education in 2003 after serving as Interim Coordinator of the
Nursing Anesthesia Program at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Seibert has been a "life-long learner" in the truest
sense of the term! She received a diploma in nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio, and
a certificate in anesthesia from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation School of Nurse Anesthesia. She continued her
education with a BA from Ursuline College in Cleveland, Ohio; a BSN from Regents College, Albany, NY; and a MSN
from Case Western Reserve University, also in Cleveland. She recently graduated from the University of South Carolina
College of Nursing doctoral program in Nursing Science.
Dr. Seibert has been associated with several nurse anesthesia programs, including
those at Case Western Reserve University, the Medical College of Georgia, and University of Pittsburgh. She has been
an officer of the Ohio and Georgia state nurse anesthesia associations and has served on numerous professional
committees. She is a past director of the AANA Foundation and most recently served as a member of the AANA Education
Committee.
Dr. Seibert has published articles and book chapters on a variety of topics. Her
research interests have centered on workforce issues, particularly on rural CRNA practice. Her dissertation focused
on organizational factors impacting nurse anesthesia practice and patient safety.
