Jodi Teitelman earned her Masters degree and doctorate in Experimental Psychology and a Certificate in Aging Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA. Before that, she received the Bachelor of Science degree from University of Richmond in Richmond, VA. She has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy for 15 years. Prior to then she taught for eight years in VCU's Department of Gerontology and spent several years doing contract work for State agencies in the Commonwealth of Virginia such as the Department for Aging and Department of Social Services.

Dr. Teitelman's primary area of interest is persons with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias, and their family caregivers. She was co–PI on a funded project examining the ways in which family caregivers of persons with dementia get mental respite, i.e., a mental break, and findings from this qualitative study were published in Physical & Occupational Therapy in Geriatrics, Alzheimer's Care Quarterly and the Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy. She has also co-authored two articles dealing with the issue of sexual abuse in persons with Alzheimer's and other vulnerable adults, two articles in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy on vision loss in older adults, and a number of publications on gerontological and geriatrics education.

She is active in the aging community and currently co-leads a support group for family caregivers of persons with dementia. Additionally, she serves on the Board of Directors of Circle Center Adult Day Services Inc. and the Education Work Group of the Commonwealth of Virginia Alzheimer's Commission.
