Entry-Level Program

Hepatitis B and Tdap Vaccine
Entry-Level Program Expectations

students enrolled in our program will be expected to complete the Hepatitis B Vaccine prior to the beginning of clinical rotations. Students will also want to consider completion of this Vaccine prior to enrollment in Gross Anatomy. The risk to students in Gross Anatomy is considered minimal. However, as our curriculum begins with Gross Anatomy Lab, we are recommending that successful applicants consider preferably completing or at least initiating the three part vaccine prior to enrollment. Many of you may have already been vaccinated as initiatives to vaccinate children and adolescents began as early as 1991.

Student Health is also recommending that all health care professional students get the Tdap, the one-time Tetanus-Pertussis booster vaccine. Pertussis (whooping cough) causes a very bad cough for adults but they generally recover from the illness, but it can be fatal for babies. In OT school you will be working with babies during the first Fall semester so even though it is recommended (vs required) at this point, we strongly recommend that you get this vaccination.
