Pediatrics Concentration

Occupational Therapy and other University resources are available for the pediatrics concentration. The Pediatrics concentration allows therapists to choose from among courses designed to add to their clinical knowledge about working with children with developmental disabilities, across the childhood age span and in a variety of settings. Concentration courses offered through the Department of Occupational Therapy will use distance format. Other courses listed may or may not be available in distance format.

OT faculty members with pediatric work and research experience teach courses and provide thesis advisement.

  Online courses may be taken subject Health Administration faculty approval.  
Grant Programs  
  Grant-supported programs offering pediatric course work are often available. Some courses are in a distance learning format, while others may be designed for a traditional classroom. Contact the Occupational Therapy department for information on grant-supported courses, related financial support, and the application process. These programs can be coordinated with Post-Professional Master of Science in Occupational Therapy course work and will require advisor approval. Current programs are:

  Leadership Excellence in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Virginia Institute for Developmental Disabilities (VIDD) - New Directions  
  MCH-LEND(MCH-LEND) provides interdisciplinary education to prepare health professionals for leadership and advocacy roles to serve children with developmental and related disabilities and their families.  
  Virginia Institute for Developmental Disabilities (VIDD New connections has provided various pre-service and in-service training grants to prepare personnel to work with families and their infants, toddlers, or preschool aged children with developmental disabilities since 1985. Trainees receive tuition support to complete seminars, interdisciplinary course work, and collaborative field experiences. New Connections is the current grant that focuses on working with children who have low incidence disabilities.
