Welcome to the Program in Patient Counseling! The Program offers an experienced based
curriculum designed to assist individuals seeking to incorporate spiritual care in professional practice. Grounded in
an interdisciplinary philosophy focused on the whole person, the program integrates theory and practice of care with
individuals in the context of life crises. Accredited by the
Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. students earn graduate credit while participating in CPE training.
An Intern Certificate Program is offered for students seeking completion of an
initial unit of clinical pastoral education. The Master of Science degree is directed toward individuals seeking certification as
health care chaplains or clinical pastoral education supervisors as well as religious workers seeking to become
pastoral care specialists. A Patient Counseling track for pastoral care professionals interested in research
and teaching is offered in the Ph. D. Program in Health Related Sciences. Individuals of other disciplines
such as nursing, medicine, social work, and counseling have used our program to complement their professional
work. Educational and credentialing requirements in health care and counseling vary by discipline. Therefore,
prospective students are strongly encouraged to consult the appropriate licensing and certifying bodies when
selecting an academic program of preparation.
