Assistant Professor and Director of Pastoral Care
Ken Faulkner serves as an Assistant Professor and Director of Pastoral Care for the VCU Health System. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Averett College and Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition, he holds a graduate certificate in Patient Counseling from VCU and a Master of Arts in Clinical Ethics from the University of Virginia.
Mr. Faulkner's clinical experience includes providing pastoral care in the areas of pediatric oncology, medical and neurosurgical intensive care, and in organ donation cases. Academically he provides instruction in biomedical ethics for the school of Allied Health including the doctoral program in Health Related Sciences and Nurse Anesthesia. In the past he has provided biomedical ethics education for the VCU undergraduate Honors Program.
Mr. Faulkner is Co-chair for the Organ Donation Committee for the VCU Health System and serves on the Ethics and the Patients' Rights and Organizational Ethics Committees. He previously served on the Governor's Advisory Commission for Mandated Health Benefits for the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 2004 he was awarded the "Celebration of Life" award by LifeNet, the organ procurement organization for the Commonwealth of Virginia, for outstanding contributions to organ and tissue donation. He is a member of the American Society for Bioethics and the Humanities.
