Dr. Alexander Tartaglia  
     
  Dr. Alexander Tartaglia Associate Professor and Associate Dean, SAHP

Dr. Tartaglia serves as Associate Dean for the School of Allied Health Professions. He holds a B.A. from Colgate University and M.A. (Theological Ethics), M. Div., and D. Min. (Psychology and Clinical Studies) degrees from Andover-Newton Theological School. He is certified as a CPE Supervisor by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. and Board Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains. He is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ.

Dr. Tartaglia served as Chair of the Program in Patient Counseling from 1996 to 2008 as well as Director of Pastoral Care for the VCU Health System from 1996-2007. He continues to serve the hospital as Co-chair of the Ethics Committee. He has held national and regional appointments in Accreditation and Certification with the ACPE. Other national service appointments include Co-chair of the COMISS Commission on the Accreditation of Pastoral Services.

Prior to VCU, Dr. Tartaglia has held faculty appointments at two medical schools and affiliate appointments at two seminaries. His research interests include organ donation and clinical pastoral education evaluation. He has published in diverse areas such as organ donation, Spirituality and HIV disease, clinical pastoral education, provider stress, and disability employment.
