Gift from the Lantz Family creates
The Robert B. Lantz Chair in Patient Counseling
and the
Katherine I. Lantz Professor of Patient Counseling
The Rev. Robert B. Lantz was a Lutheran clergy and an Association of Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor, who received his training at MCV in the 1960s. While his career took him to Baltimore, Maryland, Memphis, Tennessee, and finally to Annapolis, Maryland, he maintained a close tie to the department and in time became the Chair of the Pastoral Advisory Committee. Rev. Lantz supported the development of the Master´s Degree in Patient Counseling and was an active participant in the support of the program. He established the initial gift and commitment to the endowed Chair, and when he died in 2008 his wife, Katherine, moved to complete his hope for the position. The gift has now been received and Dr. David Mark Cooper, who became Chair of the Department of Patient Counseling in 2008, has been named the first person to assume the Robert B. Lantz Chair.
In addition, Katherine Lantz has provided a gift to create the Katherine I. Lantz Professor of Patient Counseling. Dr. Alexander Tartaglia, who served as Chair of the Program of Patient Counseling and as the Director of Pastoral Care for more than ten years, has been named the first person to assume this professorship. He assumed this position in December 2010. Dr. Alexander Tartaglia is also the Associate Dean of the School of Allied Health Professions.
An investiture ceremony for both Lantz positions will be held on May 11, 2011.
